GamePro indie review show debuts on German Xbox Dashboard

Johannes Hubert, AKA - SpynDoctor on the APP Hub forums reports that German gaming magazine GamePro is doing a XBLIG video review series called IndieWatch. This will appear on the German Xbox dashboard. It is planned to be a bi-weekly feature, and the current title on the dashboard is  ”Folge 1,” which translates into “Episode 1.”

The first episode displays the following titles: Platformance: Castle Pain, Arkedo: Pixel, Your Doodles Are Bugged!, and Obesity Epidemic, all of which reviewed positively. SpynDoctor also stated that there is a short intro showing snippets of other XBLIGs, and “it could be that this intro will stay the same throughout the series, but I can’t really know, since this is the first episode.” The intro blip contains  Shoot 1UP, YDAB!, Arkedo: Pixel, Arkedo: Swap, Arkedo: Jump as well as another unknown top-down 2D shooter.

So it seems as though Microsoft is allowing for publicity of the XBLIG platform on the Live service. It perhaps leaves us with more questions than answers. How many episodes will we see? Will it expand to other markets? How was this deal struck? And will GamePro be the only journalistic entity to cover it in this manner? A link to the site can be found here, and for those of you non-German speaking folk, Google Chrome can easily translate it on the fly for you.

We’ve reached out to Microsoft to find out if there are any plans for video reviews on the US dashboard.

What are your thoughts on video reviews? Interested in watching them on the Xbox Dashboard or on Armless Octopus?

That’s really exciting–I hope we see something like this on American dashboards, and this hopefully will be the first in many emerging “shows” based on Xbox Indies–they really deserve it.
