Stardock Makes X-mas Possible With Elfsquad7 on XBLIG

We’re holiday agnostic here at Armless Octopus, but when the opportunity arises to spend some time with Santa’s little helpers, we can’t let it pass us by. Stardock, developer of DRM free PC hits such as Sins of a Solar Empire and Galactic Civilization have taken their efforts in a different direction this holiday season by publishing Elfsquad 7 on XBLIG, which was developed by Scott Tykoski.

This 4-player co-op platformer  jam has you taking it to the North Pole in an attempt to wrap as many presents in the most efficient fashion possible, while holding off the denizens of “un-toys” as they try to put a stop to Christmas. You can find it today on the XBLIG Marketplace for the holiday friend price of 80 MS points ($1). What do you guys think about large publishers backing the indies? And on the XBLIG platform of all places! Is this something you would like to see more of?

I had no idea a larger publisher was involved with this game! That’s a fantastic idea that I’d love to see more of. Some backing for XBLIG from established names could go a long way to legitimising a service that seems to mostly be marginalised as the unwanted mutant child in the attic of Xbox Live.

Oh, and also: I didn’t expect to like this game, but it’s actually a lot of fun.

Yeah, if it’s one thing the channel seems to lack it’s ‘legitimacy’…bigger publishers helping out the devs would go a long way, but I fear the $$$ may not be there  :(

Oh, and I’m glad you ended up liking Elfsquad, Alan :)   Christmas games are a hard f’n sell, so thanks for giving it a chance in the first place.

I’d love to see more large developers (or publishers, in this case) support indies in this matter. I’d imagine that it wouldn’t cost much, but it lends a great deal of credibility to both the platform and the developer as a whole.

Besides, it may not be a bad way to scout for talent either!
