What is Armless Octopus?

Armless Octopus is a website dedicated to covering Xbox Live Indie Games, but we’ve been known to dabble in PC and XBLA games as well. The Indie Marketplace is an imposing wasteland of vibrating controller gimmicks and avatar dance parties, but hidden inside that abyss of garbage is a plethora of innovative and retro-style games that are inexpensive and a lot of fun.  We sift through the muck and help you decide what is worth checking out.

Review Policy

Sometimes you can tell a game is a wreck without playing it for an entire weekend straight. We may not always see each and every game through to the bitter end, but we’ll be honest about how far we got and what we felt about the experience. It’s also your right to know if the game was provided for review or purchased, and that information will always be listed at the end of the review.

The Review Scale

This site was initially envisioned as a simple hub for Xbox indie recommendations, but its scope eventually magnified into longer, more detailed reviews. After much consideration, review scores were implemented for people who have developed lazy eyes.

The ultimate fear was a system that fell into the standard videogame review paradigm that deems anything under an 8 totally unplayable and where a 2 is the same as a 6. We’ve avoided that pitfall by using a five-star system, where we use all five stars to their full starry potential. It’s important to remember that on our scale, a three-star game might be a pretty fun game.

Also, it’s worth noting that most of these games are less than $5, so in a lot of cases, the cost to play is time, not money. It quite frequently boils down to a question of  ”is this game worth the time spent playing it?”
