First episode of Oozi: Earth Adventure due out late February

If you have a fetish for jumping on snails and collecting small floating stars, here’s a game that might titillate you. It’s called Oozi: Earth Adventure, and it’s a hand-drawn 2D platformer with its first episode aimed for a late February release on the Xbox Live Indie Games platform  from AwesomeGamesStudio.

The story follows an alien spaceship pilot named Oozi who crashes on Earth and must find his way back along with his lost spacesuit.

The game will feature “various gameplay mechanisms,” four playable worlds, “dozens of different enemies,” a story mode, a challenge mode, and an arcade mode. Andrzej Pasiñski of AwesomeGamesStudio said Earthworm Jim, Donkey Kong Country, and Rayman serve as inspiration for the title. In the past, he has worked on indie 2D platformers for the PC including Turtix.

All four episodes will be released as a single package on PC once they’re all released on XBLIG.

Hello,
we’re the team of indie game developers behind platformer called Oozi:
Earth Adventure. Oozi: Earth Adventure is a classic 2D platformer with
old school gameplay, but with modern visuals and hand-drawn art.

It tells the story of Oozi – an alien spaceship pilot, who crashed on
a mysterious planet, lost his suit and needs to find his way home. In
his journey he will visit four unique worlds, encounter dozens of
different enemies and take advantage of various gameplay mechanisms.
There will be also two additional modes in the game: Challenge Mode
and Arcade Mode that will make the game entertainable for the most
hardcore gamers. And we’re happy to present our brand new trailer for
this upcoming title!

The game is going to be released on Xbox Live Indie Games and on
various PC online distribution platforms. However, for XBLIG
distribution, we decided to split the game and release four episodes,
each at $1 price! The game was initially going to be sold in a single
package at $5 price, but there are reasons why have we changed our
mind. The first and the most important is that on Xbox Live Indie
Games your sales are good as long as you stay on one of in-dashboard
lists: Top Downloads, Top Rated or New Releases. We hope to get a spot
on Top Rated list, but there are many other nice games on the service
too. For Top Downloads, it only matters how many people have purchased
the game on the previous day. Unfortunately, it doesn’t matter if your
game is $1 or $5, so anything above $1 stands no chance to compete for
#1 spot on the list – it’s painfully obvious that people buy cheap
games more. Another reason is that Episode One will be ready for
release much sooner than all four worlds. We’re hoping to have the
first episode available on Xbox 360 Marketplace by the end of
February. The other episodes will follow as soon as they are ready.
After that, PC version is going to be released in a single pack since
it’s much more difficult to release a small game on PC than on XBLIG.
