Latest Hell Yeah! Trailer Gets Violent

Posted on by Mike Wall in News, PC, PC News, PSN, PSN News, XBLA, XBLA News | 2 Comments

Sega has released a new gameplay trailer for Arkedo Studio’s Hell Yeah! Wrath of the Dead Rabbit that illustrates the sexy origin of the undead rabbit’s rage. We had a blast when we got our hands on this ultra violent Metroidvania game at PAX East, and you won’t have to wait too long to start killing monsters since the game hits XBLA, Steam, and PSN this summer.

Orcs Must Die 2 Murdering More Orcs This Summer, Playable at PAX East

We killed our fair share of orcs last year in Robot Entertainment’s Orcs Must Die!, but aparrently enough of those green jerks survived to scrape into a sequel. Orcs Must Die! 2 is slated to hit PCs this summer, less than a year after the original game was released. The War Mage from the original orc-slaying simulator will be joined by the somewhat dubious Sorceress for some cooperative orc smashing.

Orcs Must Die! 2 appears to subscribe to the “more, more, more” mentality that we’ve come to expect from video game sequels. It’s promising more enemies, a cooperative campaign, and more defensive traps to punish those wretched orcs. Perhaps most interestingly, a revamped skull system will allow players to make permanent upgrades to their defenses that will be persistent.

We’ll get our hands on Orcs Must Die! 2 this weekend at PAX East, but in the meantime, you can check out the teaser trailer above.

AirMech Takes Flight at PAX East

Michael Bay may have shattered our delicate childhood memories when he took the reigns of the recent Transformers films into his own hands, but there is fortunately still hope for mechs. If you’re attending PAX East next weekend, you’ll be glad to hear that your childhood fondness of mechs can be restored in the form of AirMech, the PC RTS/shooter from Carbon Games, which will be playable at Booth 772.

For those of you who just can’t bear the wait, you’ll be pleased to hear that you can get your hands on it right this moment, either by playing it through your Chrome browser or signing up to be an alpha tester for the native PC client. Additionally, playing it at PAX will grant you instant access to the alpha tester pool so you can bring this bad boy home.

Until then, I guess the trailer above will just have to hold you over.

Sink your teeth into this Chompy Chomp Chomp trailer

Posted on by Anthony Swinnich in News, PC, PC News, xblig, XBLIG News | 2 Comments

Hungry for a new competitive four-player experience? Utopian World of Sandwiches is almost ready to serve up Chompy Chomp Chomp for release on the Xbox Live Indie Games service and PC.

The new trailer makes the game look like it plays sort of like Pac-Man, only all of the characters are out to eat each other. There appears to be no way to quickly turn around, so it’s up to you to use sweet moves or power-ups to get away from your opponents.

The developer is promising “rich and varied arena environments” to do battle in both online and off, though there’s currently no word whether this guy will be included as a playable character. The XBLIG version launches in May, while the PC release is set to release sometimes afterward.  More information can be found on the developer’s website.

One Finger Death Punch Trailer Beats up a Billion Dudes

Posted on by Mike Wall in News, PC Reviews, Previews, XBLIG Previews | 5 Comments

Silver Dollar Games is taking a break from trying to figure out who fornicated with whom and wants you to start smashing faces with One Finger Death Punch. The reflex-based kung fu game has your stick -figure hero dishing out the pain with an impressive array of moves that are pulled off with just one or two buttons, depending on the difficulty level.

Why just a stick figure? Developer Jon Flook said “We don’t have the skills to do the animations ourselves and can’t afford an animator. To overcome this obstacle we decided to use a stickman style of animation. This allowed us to create many frames of animations ourselves without the need of an animator, simply because it’s affordable. It’s not as cool as having custom drawn animations with a unique artistic style but we do the best we can with the resources available.”

Flook said the game is “at least two months from completion,” but that they are looking to add in customizable special attacks and other features before the game is released. Anything you’d like to see added? Drop a comment on the Youtube trailer page.

New Antichamber Trailer Will Tease Your Brain

You really don’t have your finger on the pulse of indie games if you don’t know about Antichamber. Since its initial inception, developer Alexander Bruce has made a point to get Antichamber in the hands of as many judges as possible. So far the game has been recognized as a finalist or winner of a number of contests including the Indie Game Challenge, Independent Games Festival, PAX, IndieCade, and it won the Grand Prize in the Make Something Unreal Contest.

Now, Bruce has a new teaser trailer available for Antichamber on his website that we’ve embedded for your viewing convenience. It gives you just a taste of the twist the developer promises to take on the typical puzzle gameplay. For more information, check out the official website. If you’re looking for a chance to try the game yourself, then I hope you have your passes to PAX East secured, because he plans to have it playable there next.

Windhaven Takes to the Skies in Latest Dev Video

Posted on by Dave Voyles in News, XBLIG News | Leave a comment

Geese, Pigeons, or Owls? One of history’s great debates can finally be settled after a glance of BitPhase Entertainment’s newest trailer for Windhaven. When we last saw Windhaven this summer, the visuals instantly grabbed our attention, as did the fluid flight mechanic.

Included in this updated trailer are all six alien creatures, of which only two were seen previously. Furthermore, all magical attacks, nine in total, are showcased too. Voice acting even manages to make its way into a title where the protagonists are predominantly a breed of fowl. Howard The Duck, anyone?  The soundtrack is performed by Zack Parrish, who also did the work for the Summer Uprising trailers, in addition to Cute Things Dying Violently and one of our favorite titles of 2010, Antipole.

Bitphase is “now reasonably confident about a summer 2012 release,” so you may not to wait too much longer before booking this flight. How do you think this is shaping up compared to its XBLIG competition?

Gateways Developer Investigates a Variety of Portals

Smudged Cat Games has released a new video demonstrating the variety of tools that you can utilize in their Portal-ish Metroidvania platformer, Gateways. The video, hosted by developer David Johnston, shows off portals that function like those in Valve’s seminal classic, ones that let you rotate the screen to walk on walls, and a time-traveling gateway that creates a replicant of the old scientist. Smudged Cat is aiming to let you take control of the Gateway gun on XBLIG and PC this June.
